WordPress released version 5.0 with the much-hyped Gutenberg editor on December 6th, 2018. Chances are that you either don’t like the editor or your WordPress Theme does not support Gutenberg editor yet. I have many sites which are running WP Bakery Plugin and it does not support Gutenberg yet and that got me thinking that there will be many users out there who would want to Disable Gutenberg and switch back to the classic editor.
Disable Gutenberg Block Editor and Activate Classic Editor
Fortunately, WordPress will keep on supporting the Classic Editor plugin through 2021 and you have enough time to get familiar with the new editor while you keep on working in the old familiar Classic Editor. With over 1 Million installs, this plugin is the most convenient way in which you can get the old WordPress editor. It’s the most simple and idiot proof solution out there yet. Even if you hired a developer to work on your Blog/Website, you can install this by yourself without any help from a developer. I would still recommend getting in touch with the developer though to avoid any other bug.
Once installed, Classic Editor should be your default editor. If not then select Writing option from Settings in WordPress backend. Under Default editor for all users, select radio button next to Classic Editor.
Gutenberg is the future of WordPress and sooner or later you will have to embrace it. Therefore, I highly encourage you to explore the Gutenberg interface and learn how to use it. Let me know if you have any questions in the comments.
